Mercury Grand Marquis Transmission Problems
Did the Grand Marquis Trance tremble when defeated? 3
I have a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis, a 4.6 liter V8, swinging in a gearbox over drive. What are the most common problems associated with it?
This Ford TSB answers your questions.

Issue:
Vehicles equipped with AODE or 4R70W transmissions (see Vehicle Application Table) can sense the feel or glimpse of a torque converter clutch. It occurs in 3 or 4 gears or 34/43 with a light to moderate speed of 56 kilometers per hour (35 miles per hour). This may be due to an automatic transmission oil temperature error.
Flat:

Service procedure
Follow the step 110 for registered model air vehicles that will operate primarily in stationary traffic, in high temperature and humid areas, or under the following conditions.
Alabama
Arkansas
Florida
Georgia
Hawaii
Louisiana
Mississippi
North Carolina
اوکلاما
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Take steps 16 and 810 for heavy traffic, high temperature and humid areas, or generally unused vehicles in the conditions listed above. If you have questions about the vehicle's operating parameters, contact the transmission line.
Run a general diagnosis and correct all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before moving on to the next step.
Review the issue. Torque converter jerks in third or fourth gear with light to moderate throttle. If vibrations or emotions occur only in gears 1 or 2, or as is the case, it is not a torque converter emotion.
Common problems with vehicle diagnostics such as dirty torque converter clutch
Check for spark plugs, over-strength or poor insulation.
The injector filter can be turned off.
Connect the cable
Pollution performance
The EGR valve can emit too much exhaust gas and cause engine failure.
Can't find the right air / L (A / F) mixture from vacuum leakage.
Poor quality mixed A / F MAP / MAF sensor
HEGO sensor is too thick / bad A / F mix.
The pressure can be very low.
Loose / damaged life frame can cause visual problems.
Shaft check
Note: Residues in the system (refrigeration tubes and converters) cause refrigeration.
Remove all transmission fluid, including the torque converter. Remove coolant and cooling lines completely. See the Applicable Model / Year Service Manual, Section 0701, for more information.
Remove the drive tray and clean the tray and magnets.
Check the transmission gasket and filters. Re-use the gasket and tank filter if there is no damage.
Reinstall the transmission filter, crank case gasket and crank case.
Vehicles that will operate primarily in heavy traffic, in areas with high temperatures and humidity, or in the above conditions, install a new transmission oil cooler and a new transmission oil cooler installation kit (see Manual Coolant and Kit) Application table (installation of liquid cooler for correct parts). For use). For more information, see the instructions included in the installation kit.

Fill the gearbox with the correct amount of Motorcraft MERCON®V (XT5QM) or its equivalent.
On all 199697 two-car, Crow Victoria / Grand Marquis, Tedred / Cougar vehicles, check the emission labels to make sure they have the latest ratings. If not Accurate PCM calibration can be found in the cross-calculation tab.
Road test at normal operating temperature to confirm repair. If the fun continues, the car may have to travel up to 80 kilometers (50 miles) to roll. The torque converter should return to normal.

Note: This does not allow the TSB to change the PCM. Appropriate diagnostic procedures for PCM hardware problems can be found in the Service Manual for Controller / Emission Diagnostics (PC / ED).
Obtain an authorized modification sticker (obtained from FPS 8262, DOES II, 25 / Pk) and include the date, dealer number, and summary of changes made. Select a prominent location near the vehicle's emission control information decal that is suitable for installing an authorized modification decal. In a clean place, apply adhesive and cover with a clean plastic adhesive backing.

Replace the torque converter clutch, first the transmission oil and filter, but remove the torque converter and replace all the oil, it has a drain plug. It can be destroyed in 160 km. LDS transmission oil 1112 liters
I've been working on one of the Tses for a long time, but I guess they have a problem with the torque converter lockout solenoid valve. If the problem is overdrive, it may not disable it as desired.
Well, Ford (even Mercury) always has this problem. This is usually a torque converter. A stitch breaks. I'd like to have a look, maybe it's sticky. But I know this is a serious problem with Ford cars, and they were singing so much in the late 80's that I don't know when that problem was finally solved.
